PLACEMAKING

The town's visual appeal forms the foundation for life in Tavistock, shaping how people experience, use and value the Town Centre. We will continue to enhance public spaces through thoughtful investment in planting, lighting and signage. We will support a safe town for everyone, day & night, while encouraging businesses to achieve their sustainability goals.

You asked us to continue funding the Christmas Lights and supporting an entry into Britain In Bloom, which includes provision of the town's hanging baskets and other floral displays.

TAVISTOCK IN BLOOM & HANGING BASKETS
Tavistock BID provides 190 hanging baskets throughout the town in the summer months, plus seasonal planted displays. Our 2022 entry into SW in Bloom received gold won a Silver Gilt and Best Portfolio.

CHRISTMAS LIGHTS
Your BID levy funds a large proportion of the lights thoughout the BID area, including the beautiful colour changing display in the Churchyard. In the current BID term, new lights have been purchased for Brook Street, Drake Road, West Street and Market Street. Without the BID, there would be no festive lighting outside of the main civic areas.

VISITOR SIGNAGE
The town business directory signs - encouraging footfall to all areas of the town - are developed and maintained. New interpretation panels at key entry points to the town were designed and installed.

VACANT UNITS
We work with landlords and estate agents to improve the visual appearance and impact of vacant units, including creating artwork for the hoardings on Brook Street.

VISUAL APPEAL
As well as supporting community groups with townscape projects, like the Lions Club of Tavistock and the summer bunting, we collaborate with statutory partners to ensure the town is accessible, facilities are maintained and streets are clean.

TAVISTOCK AGAINST BUSINESS CRIME
In partnership with the local police force and Devon & Cornwall Police, we introduced a crime prevention programme through the DISC Scheme. This is a proven tool to reduce business crime and anti-social behaviour, making Tavistock a safe place to visit and do business. Membership is free to all levy paying businesses.

NEW FOR THE FOURTH TERM

A GREEN & SUSTAINABLE TOWN
Lobby for better connectivity to the town and support the development of green and active travel options, including cycle hire schemes and secure bike storage. Enhance signage ; develop a sustainable Tavistock guide and work on sustainable alternatives to the hanging baskets.

TAVISTOCK AGAINST BUSINESS CRIME
Develop the partnership through a move to UKPAC and work with stakeholders on the provision of CCTV for our streets.
