Tavistock is open for business
Tavistock is now ready to safely welcome shoppers back to the high street.
The majority of non-essential retailers and close-contact businesses have been allowed to reopen for the first time since the end of March.
Temporary changes have been put in place to ensure that the town centre can reopen and allow people to visit and shop in a responsible way.
The Tavistock experience will feel a little different. The Tavistock BID, TTC & WDBC are doing everything they can to support the community in their visits to the town centre.
Working with partners, we aim to make the experience as positive as possible. We want everyone to feel confident that Tavistock can be visited safely and to gently encourage customers back.
What you need to know:
Toilets: the public toilets in the Guildhall car park and Bus Station are now open.
Parking: all the car parks are open for business as normal.
Tavistock Pannier Market: The market is operating at reduced opening times during July – Thursday – Saturday 9am-3pm.
Shopping: some of your favourite shops will also be operating reduced hours. Please check with them before you visit.
Hairdressers and Barbers: these are operating an appointment-only system – please ensure you book in advance.
Pubs and cafes: will be reducing the number of people that can enter at any one time so expect to wait outside if capacity is reached.
Measures in place:
• Public social distancing signage visible all around the town centre along with signage in all businesses.
• Widening of the footpaths by using selected parking bays to create space for recommended social distancing.
• Street motifs outside businesses to encourage safe queuing.
• Appropriate COVID 19 advice offered to all local businesses who have put into place one-way systems, hand sanitising, control of customers in shops and social distancing signage.
• Hand sanitiser units outside the Pannier Market and Guildhall toilets.
Follow the rules
Businesses will have new processes in place to keep you safe – this might include one-way and queueing systems, screens and changes to how you order or pay. Please make sure you follow these guidelines and be patient.
Social distancing
While you are exploring Tavistock, whether it is enjoying the outdoors or browsing in shops, please follow social distancing guidelines and try to keep two metres away from other people. If you can, wear a face covering that covers your nose and mouth in situations when it's hard to stay two metres away from people.
Remember to wash your hands regularly or use hand sanitiser when you are out and about.
Be safe
If you or anyone in your household has symptoms of coronavirus, please stay at home and self-isolate.
You can find all the Government’s latest coronavirus guidance on the Gov.uk website. Businesses will be asking for your details for track & trace as per government guidelines.
