EVENTS & SHOPPING CONCEPTS

You asked us to create more seasonal events and marketing concepts to keep people shopping locally. Here's how we do that... 

The Tavistock BID has funded existing key events, created new early and later season events and delivered seasonal shopping campaigns to drive additional footfall to support businesses:

DICKENSIAN EVENING

A flagship event and the start of Christmas in Tavistock, welcoming thousands of locals and visitors into the town. The date is now fixed to fall on the first Friday in December. 

TRUE SPIRIT OF CHRISTMAS SHOPPING CAMPAIGN
A #shoplocal campaign designed to increase footfall and local support over the festive period. 

PAINT THE TOWN

Bringing Spring to shop windows with garlands created by local schools & community groups

RESTAURANT WEEK 
Inaugural event in October 2025 with an fortnight of special dishes and offers from our hospitality businesses. 

TAVISTOCK CREAM TEA WEEK
Now an annual event, celebrating our USP as the home of the Cream Tea. Businesses battls it out to create the best new Cream Tea followed by a Cream Tea Fete to end the week. 

TOWN TRAILS

Devising a variety of popular trails to promote footfall 

 FIVER FEST & MAGIC TENNER SHOPPING PROMOTIONS
The Totally Locally message: if everyone spent just £5 a week, it would bring in an additional £2.3m to the town centre!  

THE TAVISTOCK EXPERIENCE COLLECTION
A series of experiences collated and branded under Visit Tavistock to increase the town's appeal to visitors who seek additional value to their visits. 

HALLOWEEN PARADE
A spooktastic parade through the town with a series of workshops and entertainment throughout the day to boost footfall and create a unique reason to visit the town. 

DICKENSIAN LANTERN PARADE
Collaboration with West Devon Art Workshops to bring colour to the start of Dickensian Evening. Tavistock BID funds FREE workshops to encourage community participation. 

TAVISTOCK SUMMER FESTIVAL

A variety of events and workshops to keep families entertained and to boost footfall over the summer months
