EVENTS

Tavistock is known for its strong calendar of well-loved events and community activities. You asked us to create more seasonal events and marketing concepts to keep people shopping locally. By supporting, funding, facilitating and coordinating initiatives that attract visitors, we will increase footfall and spend, delivering real value for local businesses. Here's how we do that...

Tavistock BID has funded existing key events, created new early and later season events and delivered seasonal shopping campaigns to drive additional footfall to support businesses:

DICKENSIAN EVENING
A flagship event and the start of Christmas in Tavistock, welcoming thousands of locals and visitors into the town. The date falls on the first Friday in December.

ANNUAL EVENTS PROGRAMME
We organise an annual events programme designed to increase footfall, especially during shoulder months - such as Paint The Town, Fiver Fest, Restaurant Week and a Halloween Parade, along with special events like the Jubilee and VE Day.

CREAM TEA WEEK
A now annual event, that is fast becoming a jewel in our crown as it grows in reach and reputation. 2025 received huge media coverage for the town and championed our USP as Home of the Cream Tea.

RESTAURANT WEEK
We are growing our reputation as a foodie town and held an inaugural event in October 2025 with an fortnight of special dishes and offers from our hospitality businesses.

TOWN TRAILS
We devise and deliver a variety of popular trails to promote footfall and to encourage engagement from families and children in the town centre, delivering them directly to businesses.

FIVER FEST & MAGIC TENNER SHOPPING PROMOTIONS
The Totally Locally message: if everyone spent just £5 a week, it would bring in an additional £2.3m to the town centre! These campaigns encourage continued support for local businesses.

DICKENSIAN LANTERN PARADE
Collaboration with West Devon Art Workshops to bring colour to the start of Dickensian Evening. Tavistock BID funds FREE workshops to encourage community participation.

NEW FOR THE FOURTH TERM

A DICKENSIAN WEEKEND
Extend the town's hallmark Christmas event into a three-day weekend to maximise festival footfall, while introducing contingency for adverse weather conditions.

NIGHT TIME ECONOMY
Develop targeted initiatives to support hospitality and evening economy businesses.
