BUSINESS SUPPORT

We work hard to make create the right conditions for businesses to grow, succeed and thrive by providing practical help, support skills development and speak up for businesses on the issues that matter most. Tavistock BID is committed to supporting the businesses in the BID area by working closely with stakeholders like West Devon Borough Council and Tavistock Town Council to ensure that their voices are heard and to ensure that they play a key role in the future of the town centre.

We have campaigned on your behalf to stop parking meters being installed on our streets and fought the challenges presented to the town by COVID-19. Working together, we reinforce today's environment and help build a more resilient and successful town centre.

FIGHTING YOUR CORNER
We advocate for you, providing a voice for the business community and lobbying on your behalf - we fought against proposals for on-street parking charges and WON!
This support achieved a 'Community Project' Gold Award at the National BID Awards 2026.
We supported businesses during COVID-19 - spearheading the reopening of the town, lobbied against the Premier Inn proposal and asked for dedicated Motorhome parking.

TAVISTOCK TOWN TASK FORCE
We launched the 'Town Task Force' working with strategic stakeholders and landlords to identify issues and bring change and investment to the high street.

WORKING PARTNERSHIPS
We work hard to maintain good working relationships with Tavistock Town, West Devon Borough and Devon County Councils - ensuring Tavistock BID is a key strategic partner - establishing important local collaborations with the Town Council on Christmas Light installation; watering of the hanging baskets; assistance with Dickensian Evening and other issues regarding the town centre.

An initiative designed to recognise and reward great customer service and championing all high street businesses - in collaboration with Rhiannon Spurgeon.

TAVISTOCK GIFT CARD
We launched the Tavistock Gift Card to ensure local money is kept in the town and businesses benefit directly from the scheme. Over 60 businesses have been supported with the schcme and £50k ringfenced for the town.

CHAMPIONING LOCAL BUSINESS
Consistently reinforcing the #supportlocal message and providing multiple platforms to showcase the businesses of the town such as showcasing the best of business collaboration with a series of business-led visitor experiences, designed to boost footfall.

ENSURING WE BRING EXTRA VALUE TO YOUR LEVY
In the BID's third term, we secured additional funding of circa £150k from various grants and sponsorship to bring extra value to your levy and assist with town centre initiatives.

SOUTH WEST BIDS
We are part of the South West BID Group which represents over 4,000 businesses in the region and is a powerful voice influencing the regional agenda.

HELPING BUSINESSES TO GROW
An online training package as part of BID Membership of 200 accredited courses in areas such as management, manual handling, COSHH, first aid, health & safety, food hygiene and compliance.

BETTER ECONOMIES OF SCALE
We will seek opportunities to develop collective procurement arrangements and, through partnerships, provide business cost-reduction strategies to save businesses money!

DEVELOPING THE WORKFORCE
Collaboration to create meaningful work experience and apprenticeship opportunities. Develop a platform to promote work placements and support businesses in building a more skilled and engaged workforce.

PARKING
Lobby for better deals on parking charges and improvement on the 'Free after 3' Christmas offer, to support businesses and encourage visits to the town throughout the year.
