News: Many of you will have heard of West Devon Borough Council’s proposal to build a hotel on Abbey Car Park and lease it to a national chain. This would mean the loss of 56 prime car parking spaces. The BID Board held an emergency meeting this week to discuss our response. We have also been canvassing levy payers for their opinions as to how we should respond. There is undoubtedly concern from the majority of members which we will be addressing with WDBC. Janna is holding meetings with various council representatives this week. At this stage, given the feelings among levy payers, it would seem appropriate to object to the proposal on the grounds that loss of such valuable car parking is not justified and to urge WDBC to find an alternative location for the hotel. If you have any further views on this, please do email Janna: firstname.lastname@example.org
Hanging Baskets: In an effort to reduce costs and provide more value for money with the hanging baskets, we have decided to proceed with Blooming Baskets of Saltash this year. The baskets are in the process of being collected and will be planted up soon. Janna will send out a request form for those businesses who wish to take a basket again this year.
Events: Plans have been finalised for the February half term, which will include a ‘Games on the Square’ day and a shadow puppet workshop in Butcher’s Hall. We are planning a ‘Paint the Town’ day on March 16th, to launch Spring in Tavistock. Local school children will create bright and cheerful garlands to go in window displays around town. We have had an amazing response from businesses offering to host a garland and decorate their windows. We intend to promote this event regionally and hope it will bring in extra footfall in the lead up to Easter. Similar projects have been hugely successful in other BID areas. If you have not done so already and would like to participate you can let us know using the following online form: https://jannasanders.typeform.com/to/I2lzRo
Business Offers: A reminder that we have a new ‘local offers’ page on the Visit-Tavistock website. This features any offers or events from levy paying businesses so please do send us yours. email@example.com
February Board Meeting: So far, we have received no declarations of interest in attending this meeting. This was something that was requested at the AGM so please do try and come along. It will be a good opportunity to give feedback on Dickensian, ideas for a separate light switch-on event for 2019 and to receive an update on the hanging baskets. If you would like to attend and if you have any items for the agenda, please let us know.
