Weekly Update – 1st March 2019
It’s been a busy couple of weeks. The half term activities went down really well. A poll of people attending showed that these events brought in visitors from out of town and also encouraged locals to stay in town rather than going elsewhere. This year we will be conducting some important customer research during events and questionnaires to levy payers in order to better determine the economic return of such events.
Events: plans are in full swing for the Paint the Town day on March 16th. We are hoping for 35 garlands from local schools and community groups.
Meetings: Janna has attended meetings with the SW BID Group, which gave rise to some interesting discussions around additional sponsorship and promotion opportunities, and with Heart of the South West Local Enterprise Group regarding the Future High Street Fund. A bid for funding will be submitted by West Devon Borough Council and only one town within the borough can apply. There are various conditions around the projects that can be submitted, and Janna will be liaising with West Devon, the Town Council and the Chamber of Commerce on initial ideas for a bid from Tavistock. Initial indications from the borough council, however, suggest that a project in Okehampton currently is a strong contender. Further discussions will take place next week.
Business Offers: A reminder that we have a new ‘local offers’ page on the Visit-Tavistock website. This features any offers or events from levy paying businesses so please do send us yours.
Other Business: Town Mayor, Cllr. Paul Ward is looking for contributions of prizes of donations to be raffled at the Civic Ball on 29th March in aid of his chosen charity, Tavistock Children’s Centre. Contributors would, of course, be acknowledged. Please help if you can:
Offers of donations can be made directly to Karen Pearce of Tavistock Children’s Centre:
