Weekly Update – 16th March 2019
Paint the Town: the event was received really well among the community and gained some noticeable publicity from Radio Devon and BBC Spotlight. This can only serve us well in terms of promoting the town. We have been really touched by the effort that has gone into making the garlands and we are very thankful to all the schools and local groups involved. We hope this will become an annual event that will grow over time to be something that really drives footfall into town.
Meetings: Janna has attended further meetings with the Town Council regarding the Future High Street Fund. As we have no coherent bid in place, we will wait to see how the Okehampton submission goes before considering a bid for funding in the second phase later in the year. In the meantime, discussion will take place with relevant stakeholders on putting together a project for the town and business plan.
Parking: Janna attended a Car Parking Strategy meeting at West Devon Borough Council. It has been determined that discussions need to take place on a more local level and Tom Jones, Head of Place Making for WDBC, will be arranging meetings with local communities in the coming weeks.
Britain in Bloom: we have submitted our entry to South West in Bloom. The hard work starts now!
Business Offers: A reminder that we have a new ‘local offers’ page on the Visit-Tavistock website. This features any offers or events from levy paying businesses so please do send us yours.
Other Business: Town Mayor, Cllr. Paul Ward is looking for contributions of prizes of donations to be raffled at the Civic Ball on 29th March in aid of his chosen charity, Tavistock Children’s Centre. Contributors would, of course, be acknowledged. Please help if you can:
Offers of donations can be made directly to Karen Pearce of Tavistock Children’s Centre:
