Weekly Update – 15th February 2019
News: A great deal of time was taken over the past two weeks meeting with members of WDBC regarding the proposal to build a hotel on Abbey Rise Car Park. We made the position of BID members very clear, maintained pressure on all members of the council and negotiated gently with key members of the Hub committee. As you will know, the proposal was not awarded funding this week. While still on the table, it cannot go ahead without funding. This is great news for our town centre. On the back of this, our focus is to continue to push for greater involvement in town strategy groups and for better communication by the Borough Council to stakeholders such as the BID. A meeting has been tabled for March 8th at West Devon Borough Council.
February Board Meeting: So far, we have received no declarations of interest in attending this meeting. This was something requested at the AGM so please do try and come along. If you would like to attend and if you have any items for the agenda, please let us know.
Date: 20th February 2019 – Bedford Hotel – 6PM.
Hanging Baskets: We are happy to continue to offer hanging baskets with the same management as previous years but at a saving for the BID. We have selected a different provider – Blooming Baskets in Saltash – and will be seeking sponsorship for the cost of them. If you would like a basket for your business this year then please email me or fill out the online form: https://jannasanders.typeform.com/to/cZHJDl
Britain In Bloom: Janna is working alongside the Community Gardeners and Town Council to prepare a BID entry this year which will in turn support the town’s overall effort.
Marketing Committee: an inaugural cross-party meeting was held with a variety of local stakeholders and an initial plan of action was agreed. A destination plan will be created, which will serve to inform how we market ourselves, and we are looking at how to increase the reach of the Visit-Tavistock brand by engaging more with other tourist organisations.
Business Offers: A reminder that we have a new ‘local offers’ page on the Visit-Tavistock website. This features any offers or events from levy paying businesses so please do send us yours.
Other Business: Town Mayor, Cllr. Paul Ward is looking for contributions of prizes of donations to be raffled at the Civic Ball on 29th March in aid of his chosen charity, Tavistock Children’s Centre. Contributors would, of course, be acknowledged. Please help if you can:
Offers of donations can be made directly to Karen Pearce of Tavistock Children’s Centre:
